Scheduled changes, 3 tracks loses? 3 gain dates?

SPEED's Bob Dillner reported on the July 11th SPEED Report that rumors have Auto Club Speedway, New Hampshire Motor Speedway and Atlanta Motor Speedway with second race dates going to Las Vegas Motor Speedway and Kansas Speedway and Kentucky Speedway getting a Sprint Cup race. No word how this will shake up the Sprint Cup schedule, can be figured out a few different ways. Look for Atlanta Motor Speedway to keep it's Labor Day weekend date and doubtful Las Vegas would get a summer date with the heat there.

But Atlanta's spring date is two weeks after Las Vegas, and it's way too cold to race in Kentucky in March..

They're really going to have to shuffle the schedule around to make all this work.

Rumor has it that Homestead will be moved to March and another track will host the finale. Vegas will either host the start of the Chase or the end.

Sorry, I can't support that. I don't think Vegas should get the awards ceremony AND two Cup races. Homestead's one of the best races in the Chase, not to mention the season should start and end in Florida. Moving the final race of the year to the west coast will further alienate NASCAR's core fanbase.

It's not like Homestead has been a long standing tradition by any means. Only about 10 years or so, if I'm not mistaken. Before that, I think it was Atlanta that the season ended at. I don't know why that would upset so many fans. I'd be all for it ending at Daytona on the road course though. That would be cool IMO. As far as Vegas and the award ceremony..... Maybe it makes sense to have the last week of the season and the awards ceremony be held in the same town. Kinda like the Nationwide Series does now.

The awards ceremony and the final race in Cup are weeks apart. I think Vegas was a good show for the Awards Ceremony last year, but I'd rather see the season finale in Homestead. For one, the racing at H-MS is much better than boring ass Vegas; two, the sport's core fanbase is on the east coast.

Also, Homestead and Atlanta are totally different. The fans show up to Homestead every year, why should they be punished with losing the well-placed season finale? They move Homestead to March and there's nothing special about it, it's just another race.

I don't know, I guess I'm still bitter about Rockingham and The Southern 500 being shipped off to the left coast so they won't show up and support their tracks.

The separation of weeks between the awards ceremony and the final race is not new to me. All I'm saying is that it doesn't have to be. They could have the final race and awards ceremony the same weekend. Seems to me that it would be doable.

My mention of Atlanta was nothing more than to say that the final race has been held elsewhere. Personally, I could care less where they hold the final race. I know I wouldn't feel slighted by NASCAR if they move it out west.

I agree on Rockingham and the Southern 500 @ Darlington. Two great losses IMO.

Especially since the left coast fans can't appreciate the gifts NASCAR gave them (at everyone else's expense).

Where does it end though? What's next? Season opener at Fontana?

Besides, there are a lot of other places that should get their first date before Vegas and Kansas get second dates. Nashville, Iowa and the street course in Montreal would all be great additions.

Even more bull**** that Loudon (which sells out every race) is possibly gonna lose a date so Kansas (which doesn't sell out every race) can get a second date.

Not too upset about Atlanta, the spring race there hasn't done well in a very long time. Keep the Labor Day Classic in Atlanta though.

My guess is that if it were a close points battle, any track on the circuit, with the exception of California ,would sell out.
I wonder how dedicated the homestead fans would be if it were a May race, with nothing at stake but a win.?

Jimmie's had the title wrapped up the past two season when they got to Homestead (needed to basically crash in order to lose) -- that hasn't stopped them from showing up.

I'd freakin' laugh if Homestead sold out in March and Vegas didn't sell out the finale.
