If this adage is still true then surely the popularity of NASCAR would've meant greatly increased sales of the Monte Carlo, Taurus, Grand Prix, Intrepid. Sadly, for the manufacturers pumping millions into Winston Cup this is not true.

Since the early 90's when NASCAR wasn't quite as popular as it is now, half of the models races have disappeared, and the four remaining cars have barely managed to maintain their market share, let alone increase their sales. This proves that NASCAR is about the drivers and not the cars anymore, as the race cars no longer bear any relationship to the showroom car, the SUV remain the vehicle of choice:(

"Perhaps the answer is for NASCAR to return to its roots and race cars that are closer to what one can buy--isn't that stock car racing?" --John Rettie

It's very true. It's turning into a dog and pony show.

Parade beautiful people in front of the fans and sell their faces on coffee mugs.

Would be very good to return to stock.

Don't get me wrong, I'm one of those people that has spent a buck or two on merchandise...I love the sport.

same here, I love the drivers and the sport, but its really fading away from the manufactures. I would love to see v8 Monte Carlo's and Grand Prix's and I would like to see and actual Ford and Dodge, not a family sedan that got lost and ended up on Daytona like the taurus and Intrepid

What I've been saying for a long time........car makes are nothing anymore. A lot if not most of that comes from NASCAR trying to achieve parity among the different teams......all those aero rules and stuff!! I say let the manufacturers do the tweaking. The teams go get a make and build it with all the safety features and as long as it fits a standard template from the manufacturers and it meets all the safety features and minimum wieght, etc let them race!! A particular style doesn't do well.........then that team either lives with it or switches! I think the manufacturers will become a little more competetive that way.......and all the Ford, Chevy, Dodge, Pontiac fans (and any other make envolved) will have something to cheer and brag about. It could be done, but NASCAR would have to get out of the "parity" business!
