Fox says its broadcast of Sunday's UAW-DaimlerChrysler earned a 6.2 national rating from Nielsen Media Research and a 12 share, drawing 10.3 million viewers. Fox says final Nielsen figures are expected to show that the race was the weekend's top-rated sports program, easily topping CBS's NCAA basketball tournament selection show, which earned national figures of 4.6/9. The 6.2/12 for this year's race, however, is 3.1 percent lower than last year's 6.4/14 for the race.

Considering what everyone thought - this doesn't surprise me. Even the 'sunday-afternoon-only' racefans found it boring.

It was even more boring at the track (never mind that Newman crashed early on). Although having the NASCAR "FanView" didn't make it as boring as it could have been. Watched the in-car camera's and all the stats that were available. Scanner sucks on on it, though. There weren't a whole lot of racing going on anywhere on the track. I wonder what next year will bring with a new track surface.

The ratings might have been down. The weather was really nice in many parts of the country. Here in east Tennessee, it was about 80 degrees. We cooked out on our new grill during the race and the nearest store was out of hamburger buns.

I do think the new surface and banking will make for better racing. Now if a few more tracks will get the hint.
