for waving a yellow when tony spun out it was no damn debri on the track cause tony did'n hit nothing. All Nascar wanted was to bunch the field back together so they can have the big one Mike Helton and all in the front office can go to hell.

I agree that not only risked several drivers lives...but cost my driver Bill Elliott 8 positions. Not to mention the front runners it took out.

Devil's Advocate here for a moment....

Maybe they want the big one because it gets NASCAR on all the TV shows and newspapers that don't usually mention NASCAR at all?

of course if nascar was going to do that ~wouldn't they have let junior or gordon win- better coverage.

Okay, Paul.......that may be the case!! Can't argue there but if the big one produced another fatality that is not something they would want........I'm pretty they would have thought of that.:)

They wanted the caution to make sure their pud boys Jr and Mikey were all set to take it too the finish !!!!!!!

Not completely true Paul........NASCAR was rising in popularity a couple years before!! Why would FOX and NBC pay such high premiums for coverage if not?:D

I wouldn't say Dale's death caused the increase in fans but I would say that there are more Dale Sr. fans out there now after Dale's death. IMO

But us old time Dale Earnhardt fans call all those recent fans (after his death) "Johnny Come Latelys"!! :D

Because I have been a Dale Sr. fan since the mid 80's and there was never as many fans of him back then, then there is now. Dale was usually the one getting bashed all the time like Gordon does now.

They were all set to win prior to the caution.

I only found nascar in the mid 90's and i started being a dale fan because i saw him with brooks and dunn and i liked his personality,so i missed alot of good things and thankfully i missed the bashing.

Annie Nascar would want the big one for more money...COMMERCIAL TIME..they got to kill time during red flags and the yellow to thepoint they will get more money in it

Paul...I think you hit the nail on the head. Coverage is Coverage. The way I understand NASCAR advertising, every second a sponsors name is on the telecast they get to charge that sponsor for. Therefore, when they get to show replay after replay after replay it gets them more money.

Also...When was the last time you saw a great finish to a race get so much airtime on Sports Highlight programs like SportsCenter, etc.? I must have seen the Big One from last night a dozen times on these types of programs.

There is a simple solution to the erratic throwing of the red flags; don't count caution laps if there are less than 10 to go. No more question whether or not there is enough time to throw a red. It would also add a bit more planning on the crew chiefs part as far as fuel mileage goes.

Why don't they red flag every race with ten to go,and serve cold drinks, and peanuts to the drivers. Then we would know were Nascar stands period. :P

Nascar President Mike Helton announced today that fines will be levied against all fans that were found to have thrown garbage onto the back stretch following the running of the Pepsi 400 this past Saturday. Helton cited "actions that can be deemed detrimental to sport of Nascar" as the reason for the fines. On a totally unrelated subject Helton was to have put a down payment on a small island in the South Pacific. :)

NASCAR is in a no-win situation with this one. The drivers are grateful that no red was thrown because that could have been disastrous. But, the "fans"(and I use that term loosely) are angry because they didn't get to see "racing" to the finish.

I am glad/happy/ecstatic that the red wasn't thrown. I'd had enough wrecking for one evening.

4xchamp---- very true words. You never see the race to the finish, you only see the wrecks. :(

you know it wasn't too many years ago when it wasn't unusual to see a race finish under yellow. Back before it became such a "show" Take it back to the way it was I say

Amen, mlitefan. Not too long ago, either. True followers of racing knew that yellow flag endings some times happened.

DE won his 500 under yellow. I don't recall anyone booing and throwing chit on the track.
