View Full Version : Dale Sr crash was not that bad ????

rajflyboy

Once again we see a car slam the wall much harder than the 3 did!! The 25 had a direct hit into the wall (a much harder hit than the 3 took)!! Pretty obvious that the safety equipment in E's car was not up to par!!

Can't mess with Safety Equipment in this sport !!!! Modifying the seat belt really caused that deal if you ask me !!!!

Hans device is the thing that saves most of the drivers now. And i don't remember anyone asking your opinion:o :o :o :o :o

there were wrecks before the hans device worse than that with no injuries !!!

Same race...2 years ago Bill Elliott went strait into the wall exactly like Earnhardt. Walked away with no injuries. So i agree that #3's belts and equipment were not up to par.

Some people just can't handle the truth (as hard as it may be)

racerx11
07-07-2002, 04:49 AM
That was a pretty hard hit, and I agree. I think Simpson took the fall for something that was not his fault. If those belts were in correctly, Dale senior might be the points champ this year.

Annie-8fan
07-07-2002, 05:02 AM
Some people wouldn't know the truth if it hit them in the face-

If you have proof of what you say, i would love to see it.

Dale's been gone for almost 18 months, these rumors do nothing any good.

I don't buy that stuff either Annie. I agree with you.

But personal attacks don't do any good either. Please refrain.

Why are we bringing up the 3 car and his death again???? cant you just leave it alone... let it go... it was the safety equipment, it was Marlin, it was the straps, it was alot of things all adding up to Dale's number to check out... just leave it at that when your times up its up... Id just like people to leave this subject alone, and respect it.

It was nothing personal but their is no need for this topic now.

Joe N. hit into the wall wasn't as bad as Dale Sr.'s, Dale went pretty much right into the wall and wasn't slowed that much when he hit Ken S., Joe hit another car and got slowed down alittle and didn't hit the wall head on, he hit the wall with the corner of his car.

Flyboy.........you are a pilot right? So am I........so was my father!! Been around flying all my life. My father (capt with Continental Airlines with over 40,000 hrs flt time) crashed a small airplane and died.......I was witness to it. Not that hard of hit, but it killed him!! Stall speed on Taylorcraft he was flying is less than 40 mph true airspeed. Don't give that **** about "hard" hits!! It's many other unknown factors envolved and you know it!! Get off that crash with Dale Earnhardt!!

rajflyboy
07-07-2002, 05:09 AM
my only point is that that particular crash was strange ..... Sr shouldn't have died that day !!!

Whole thing just doesn't make much sense!!!

I watched that race with around 10 guys! We all left and didn't thing twice about Sr being hurt, only to learn hours later about the reality of it !!!!

Something just isn't making a whole lot of sense about that whole deal!!! The 25 crash tonight just adds to it !!!!!

Sorry, but i was all fired up on another post when they were wishing someone would put junior and waltrip in the wall.

As for Dale, Darryl Waltrip, when he saw the replay he knew it was bad~ maybe thankfully we never had the angle that they did.

DE Wrangler :

Sorry to hear about your dad.

I think airplanes are a whole lot less forgiving than racecars!

If you crash an airplane you really don't have much of a chance unless its a run off the end of a runway or something very minor like that!

I recently had a chance to see the aftermath of an airplane (C152) that landed in a field after running out of gas. The thing flipped over twice before it came to a stop!

The cockpit was still in good shape but the rest of the plane took the impact of the hits! The pilot and passenger had their seatbelts on and walked away. If they were not wearing the seatbelts they surely would have been hurt!

Your right about the speed not meaning much sometimes!! What about the guy a few years ago that flipped his plane on the runway and then when the plane came to a stop upside down, he died when he released his seatbelt and fell on his head and died.

accidents are strange and sometimes do come out very different than it would seem!!

Look at the Mikey Waltrip Busch Wreck at Bristol years ago when the whole car disentegrated (even the roll cage) and poor Mikey walked away (oh ya I actually like Mikey back then)

Now Now

I give my passengers a good ride unlike most of these Airline Pilot Whining morons !!!!

Most of those idiots can't even make a simple take off without over rotating and making their passengers think they are on a darn roller coaster!!!! Not to mention being all over the sky on an approach! And they think that the passengers can't tell in the back!

Oh ya and these guys get paid like 15,000 grand a month to do it and still whine about it! Some of them are going to be on the street real soon wishing they could be flying again!!!

I really don't think that airplanes are made to be crash survivable the way that Race Cars are!

Race Cars crash very often and the hope is that Airplanes never crash !! Therefore you dont have rollcages and all the other safety equipment!!!

Definately two different animals !!

again I'm just telling the truth!

The next time you go on an airline flight just check out the freaking takeoff these guys do most of the time ( they jerk the plane off the runway and point it up like its the space shuttle) youd think your on The Magnum 2000 at Cedar Point (and the companies wonder why they are losing so much cash)

Thats not good airmanship at all and a good way to scare your passengers !!!!!

and I don't want to hear any of this Noise abatement crap either !!!

What's the largest aircraft you are rated for flyboy? Anything over 12,500 lbs? You have prescribed speeds to do certain things to ensure safety.......comfort is not always considered!! Not like a small light single or twin where you have a 5,000 ft runway when you can get by with a 1000 ft!! :D

rajflyboy
07-07-2002, 06:09 AM
Its not that I'm better than the next pilot because everyone has their weaknesses but at least I'm interesting in making the folks in the back happy and at least trying to make them want to come back and fly with the company I work for!!

I ride on the airlines all the time and I'm surprised at the poor airmanship I see on an everyday basis!!!!!!!

rajflyboy
07-07-2002, 06:13 AM
DE Wrangler :

I've flown a 100,000 pound airplane in an airline environment !! Sure there are occasions when a radical manuever is necessary but it should be the exception rather than the rule !!!

Over Rotating with a 15 to 18 degree pitch attitude or more on takeoff is not necessary unless your avoiding wake turblulence!!

rajflyboy
07-07-2002, 06:16 AM
If you lose an Engine sure you will hold a given airspeed but you don't have to do that on a normal takeoff !!!

DE Wrangler 2
07-07-2002, 06:16 AM
I believe the rotation angle of a 757 is something on the order of 20 degrees......pretty damned steep!! And uncomfortable in the back too!!:)

DE Wrangler 2
07-07-2002, 06:21 AM
And contrary to your statement about noise abatement........it does play into the take offs at airports in or very near to city or communities!! Every take-off is a "short field take-off"!! A fact of life at major airports!

rajflyboy
07-07-2002, 06:22 AM
Exactly, airlines need to change that crap into something more reasonable! I know the airline I worked had some reasonable techniques to make the ride better for the people under normal conditions !!! But its individual technique too! You don't have to yank the thing to 20 degrees. You can ease it up there and make it a lot more comfortable!

DE Wrangler 2
07-07-2002, 06:27 AM
Okay.....go to work for that airline then. Just tell me what airline that is so I can avoid it. The take off procedures are prescribed by the aircraft manufacturer........airlines can't vary those procedures without FAA approval!! They don't do that and you know it!! You sound like what we always called "cowboys"!:D

Something, sometime, will happen to tame you down.

rajflyboy
07-07-2002, 06:40 AM
In this competitive day and age in the flying industry we all must do what we can to make our customers feel more comfortable with their individual flying experiences!

Good Pilot Technique is one good way to do this!

Sure you do fly airplanes by the numbers but with good technique and forethought you should be able to give people a good ride under normal conditions!

Oh ya : small airplanes are flown by the numbers just like big ones are !!!!!!!

So far I have found that certain airlines seem to do things a whole lot better than others!

your right Kat ....sorry.....

I just have to throw my two cents in about giving passengers a comfortable ride! Seems like a lot of these guys forget about the people in the back when they close the cockpit door!

I like my career and want to prosper at it! The only way we can do that is too take care of the customers in the cabin and make them have an enjoyable and safe experience each time they take a flight somewhere!

Back to the subject at hand.

It IS PROVEN FACT THE BELT "DUMPED" DUE TO IMPROPER MOUNTING

Anyone who is still denying this lives in fairy land.

Is DE responsible for his own death? I think so, he was blocking, with improperly mounted saftey equipment. Did he mean to die? I don't really think any sane person could think so.

I have to imagine he started grinning from ear to ear as soon as he felt the car move, he knew "it was on", then the classic "oh ****" as he turned up to the wall. Another "oh ****" as he looked up track and saw Kenny comming if he was still alive at that point. He was a confident man and had been in wrecks before, he knew this one would turn out OK too. Didn't this time.

I think the way NASCAR handled the details after the crash were deplorable, every race driver in every division of racing everywhere deserved to know the facts as soon as they were discovered. NASCAR tried to place blame, hide pertitent facts, and generaly cover their asses.

By the way, "dumping" was even unknown to Bill Simpson until this accident, he just knew DE had disreguarded the instructions in the way he had mounted the belts. The mount didn't break, the mounting position caused the safty label to be positioned directly under the adjuster, the increased thikness at that point is what caused friction to melt the fabric then after weakend it ultimatly tore the rest of the way.

Awesome_Bill
